Board Responsibilities
Board Composition
The Board is composed of nine members appointed by the governor, each of whom must be a United States citizen, a Louisiana resident, domiciled in the state, and at least 30 years of age. Effective August 1, 2026, the future composition of the Board has changed as a result of Act 683, which affect new Board Member appointments.
Board Composition During the Transition: One member shall be appointed from, and shall reside in, each of the five public service commission districts established by law. Four members shall be appointed from the state at large. Each member shall be a citizen of the United States of America, a resident of Louisiana, at least thirty years of age, and shall have been actively engaged in the private security business for at least five years. One of the members appointed at large shall be a representative of a nationally-operated security company. Each member shall be licensed or registered with the board or a corporate officer of a licensed company. La. RS 37:3273
Board Composition for Future Appointments: Five members represent Louisiana’s private security industry, with one member selected from each of the Board’s five geographic districts. These members may serve as company owners, qualifying agents, or instructors. They must have at least five years of active private security industry experience and be licensed by the Board or serve as a corporate officer of a licensed security company. One of the five must also be affiliated with a nationally operated security company. The remaining four members serve at large and provide perspectives from Louisiana’s tourism, insurance, law enforcement, and law enforcement training communities.
