NEW RULES SCHEDULED TO TAKE EFFECT ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2026

Key Changes to Rules

The updated rules are designed to make requirements clearer, more consistent, and easier to follow while strengthening standards across Louisiana’s private security industry. Below are some of the key changes companies, security officers, and instructors should know. Be sure to review the new rules in full to understand all requirements and how they may affect you or your organization.

TRAIN BEFORE FIRST WORK ASSIGNMENT

Companies must make sure security officers complete all required training before their first work assignment.

VISIBLE COMPANY LICENSE NUMBER REQUIRED

All security company marketing materials and vehicles must include the company's license number.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Application requirements have changed: applicants are no longer required to provide a copy of their Social Security card; instead, they must provide a Social Security number and a digital, passport-quality photo.

CHANGE OF EMPLOYMENT

Increased the Change of Employment period from 30 days to 60 days. Security officers who work for another licensed security company within 60 days of leaving a licensed security company do not need a new background check.

Added rules for less lethal tools, including requirements for initial/refresher training.
