We are committed to the proper use of public funds and resources. Louisiana law allows any person to report suspected misappropriation, fraud, waste, or abuse of public funds.

Louisiana Law

Louisiana Revised Statute 24:523.1 requires every auditee to post and keep posted in conspicuous places on its premises a notice prepared by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor concerning the reporting of misappropriation, fraud, waste, or abuse of public funds. The statute also requires the notice to be posted on the auditee’s website.

If you suspect that public funds are being misappropriated, or that fraud, waste, or abuse is occurring within a public entity, report it to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor.

What to Report

To support a thorough review, include as much relevant information as possible, including who, what, when, where, why, and how. Examples of improper or illegal activities include, but are not limited to:

Misappropriation or theft of public funds

Fraudulent claims and billing

Wasteful or unnecessary expenditures

Abuse of position or authority

Conflicts of interest

Any other act that undermines the proper use of public resources

Anonymous Reports

Anonymous reports are accepted. Providing contact information may help the Louisiana Legislative Auditor follow up if additional information is needed.

What Happens Next

Information submitted may be reviewed by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor and may result in an investigation, audit, or other appropriate action.
