Subject: New Private Security Laws Now in Effect

Dear Members of Louisiana’s Private Security Industry:

This is a reminder that changes resulting from Acts 613 and 683 of the 2026 Legislative Session took effect August 1, 2026.

For applications paid on or after August 1, 2026, LSBPSE will not issue a registration card under the applying company’s affiliation until the applicant has:

• Submitted all required documents; 

• Cleared the background check; and 

• Completed the required 16 hours of classroom training, including S.O.S.T. 1101 and 1102 or approved equivalent courses. 

Qualifying law enforcement officers and out-of-state security officers remain subject to their existing training requirements, but all required training must be completed before the first work assignment.

The former Blue Form and Disclosure/Affiliation Form have been renamed:

• Initial Security Officer Registration Application—Part 1 

• Initial Security Officer Registration Application—Part 2 

A separate application for qualifying law enforcement officers and out-of-state officers will be introduced in the coming weeks. Newly issued registration cards will also feature an updated design.

A Social Security card is no longer required. Applicants must instead submit a passport-quality photograph, a signed Form I-9, and a current government-issued photo ID. When an application has missing or incomplete documentation, corrected documents should be emailed to privatesecurityboard@la.gov. 

The Board is refreshing its website, licensing portal, applications, registration cards, and public lookup to make these resources easier to use. Please continue to check our website and the online licensing portal for status updates as we implement these changes.
