ON THE JOB GUIDANCE
Only a security officer who is registered and has successfully completed the required training established by the Board
The device must be authorized by the Board and approved by the employer for use with verified training
Upon receipt of a less lethal tool certification, the security officer shall report the certification to the Board
USAGE RULES
ONLY WHEN REASONABLY NECESSARY
May be used only when the officer reasonably believes it is necessary to protect or defend self, another person, or property.
USED ONLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH TRAINING
Must use the device only in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction and the training received.
DE-ESCALATE WHEN POSSIBLE
The officer shall first attempt to de-escalate the situation and consider all reasonable alternatives before using a less lethal weapon.
NO UNNECESSARY HARM
The use of less lethal weapons shall be limited to the minimum force necessary - excessive use is prohibited.
DISCLOSURE OF USE
Any use of less lethal tools must be reported to employer in accordance with Board rules.
