Instructor Requirements (In-House)

An In-House Instructor is licensed to train only security officers employed by the instructor’s affiliated security company.

Applicants must:

• Be approved by LSBPSE and meet the general qualifications for licensure under Louisiana law.
• Meet at least one of the following qualification pathways:
• 3 years of qualifying supervisory experience with a contract security company, proprietary security organization, or qualifying law-enforcement agency;
• Degree in administration of justice or equivalent from an accredited college or university;
• P.O.S.T.-certified instructor; or
• Louisiana teaching certificate or equivalent plus 1 year of supervisory security experience.
• Be affiliated with the security company whose employees they will train.
• Submit the required application and supporting documentation, including the résumé, identification, photograph, fingerprints, qualifying certifications or credentials, and any curriculum or training documentation required by LSBPSE for the applicable training category.
• Maintain at least $100,000 in general liability insurance with the State of Louisiana named as additional insured. An In-House Instructor covered under the employer’s policy may satisfy this requirement through the employer’s coverage, with documentation confirming that the instructor is covered to teach security officers.
• Pass the LSBPSE Instructor Examination with a score of at least 70%.
• Pay the applicable instructor license fee and Instructor Examination fee.

Teaching limitation: May teach only security officers employed by the affiliated company
