  • What are the registration requirements for active and retired law enforcement?

    Active LEO

    Does need to be registered:

    • When the guard is operating within their jurisdiction as an employee of the security company and wearing the security company uniform (Background checks are not required, however all relevant training including POST certificates, POST firearms cards, and commissioned cards must be uploaded to their profile.
    • When the guard is operating outside their jurisdiction as an employee of the security company and wearing the security company uniform (Background checks are not required, however all relevant training including POST certificates, POST firearms cards, and commissioned cards must be uploaded to their profile.)

    Does NOT need to be registered with the state board:

    • When the guard is operating within their jurisdiction as an independent contractor through their respective agency, provided they are wearing their agency uniform.

    Retired LEO

    ALL MUST be registered:

    • Retired within the last 5 years- Must complete a background check, however all relevant training including POST certificates, current POST firearms cards, and retired commissioned cards must be uploaded to their profile. The four-hour LSBPSE training is highly recommended.
    • Retired 5 years ago or longer- Must complete a background check, however all relevant training including POST certificates, current POST firearms cards, and retired commissioned cards must be uploaded to their profile. Additionally, they must take the four-hour LSBPSE training and pass the exam.
